Get involved with our campaign for a skatepark in Brantham!
Brantham Skatepark is a grassroots project with a clear mission: to create a dedicated space in the village where young people can skate, scoot, bike, and spend time outdoors with their friends.

Right now, the nearest skateparks are at least a 30-minute drive away – making it difficult for local families and young people to access a safe, active space after school or on weekends. Brantham has fantastic playgrounds for younger children, but there’s a real gap when it comes to facilities for older kids and teens.
This project aims to change that.
FUNDRAISING GOAL:
£200,000
RAISED SO FAR:
£42,000

Why a Skatepark?
A well-designed skatepark encourages physical activity, builds confidence, brings people together, and gives young people a place to be proud of – away from shop fronts and street corners. It’s not just about skating or biking – it’s about creating a social space where young people can feel welcome, active, and included.

The idea for Brantham Skatepark was brought to the Parish Council and met with enthusiasm. With support from councillors and local residents, the project is now gathering momentum

Who are we?
My name’s Abi & I'm a mum of two boys aged 10 & 8. I’ve started this campaign because I feel so passionately about giving our youth and our community something more. We are lucky to have a number of sports clubs in the area, however, football, cricket and rugby aren’t for everyone and we wanted to reach as many children as possible, especially teenagers and encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle.

I truly believe we should invest in our youth, give them a space to be proud of, somewhere safe to hang out and connect, that isn’t adult-led. Children get bored when there isn’t anything to do, that’s when trouble can happen, but by giving them spaces to thrive, learn new skills and be 'offscreen' is vital - they deserve to be looked after and seen to be responsible. My boys found their love for skateparks a few years ago, when we were visiting family in Norfolk; they had a park very close to where we stayed and instantly they were hooked!
One of the first things we noticed about the skating community, was just how inclusive they are … on so many occasions, without any prompting, we've watched older children coach and support the younger ones, not only giving verbal advice, but offering top tips and pointers on how to carry out certain moves and demonstrating them with all the patience and kindness you could hope for.

With my sons’ new found enthusiasm and love for skateparks, I decided to approach Brantham Parish Council to see if they would consider building one. To my surprise and astonishment, I was blown away when they responded with: "Great idea! However, we don’t have anyone to lead it at the moment" As a result, it was time to put my money where my mouth was, join the committee and take the lead. I never thought I'd do something like this, but here I am! I'm learning so much as we go along and I am determined to do this for our children and wider community.
Thankfully, I'm slowly gathering a fantastic team together who I'm eternally grateful for! Especially Vicki, who, without her, I'd be lost! And to Brantham Parish Council, who are supporting me in every way possible, I am so grateful to them for kick-starting this proposal. This project means so much to me, and I'm truly excited for the future!
